Where to sleep in Milan: which neighborhood to choose - HÕMA Collection
Milan Guides

Where to sleep in Milan by area

A concrete explanation of neighborhoods for choosing the right housing.

HÕMA Spiga - hotel in the Fashion Quadrilateral, Milan

Choosing where to sleep in Milan is not just a matter of price or distance from the Duomo. The area you stay in affects the rhythm of your days, the quality of your sleep and how you experience the city.

Milan is compact but very different from neighborhood to neighborhood: some areas are perfect for getting around on foot, others work better for work or longer stays.

The advice: choose based on what you want to do, not just based on the distance to the Duomo. From the Spiga district to the Duomo is a 10-minute walk. From Porta Venezia 15. From Certosa 30 by subway, no changes.

Practical advice

From Linate airport you can take the M4 (blue line) metro directly to the center. The line covers San Babila, Forlanini and Linate in a few minutes. If you sleep in Cinque Giornate or Porta Vittoria, the Tricolore stop is a few minutes' walk from the facility.
The historic center of Milan can be visited well on foot-from Duomo to Brera is 10 minutes, from Duomo to Castello 15. To move between more distant neighborhoods use the metro: M1 (red) line covers the east-west axis, M3 (yellow) north-south, M4 (blue) Linate-center. The metro is frequent and punctual.
If arriving by car, avoid the center - expensive parking lots and active ZTLs. The most convenient areas to park are Certosa (outside ZTL, near highway), Cinque Giornate and Porta Vittoria (garages in residential area at reasonable rates). Read the complete guide on getting to Milan by car.
Milan's ZTL zones are active mainly in the center and in the Quadrilateral. If you sleep in Spiga, you will be given access instructions. If you want to avoid the problem completely, choose Certosa, Cinque Giornate or Porta Vittoria-all outside the main ZTL. Details in the ZTL and parking guide in Milan.
